Michelle Dockery content with Lady Mary’s closure on “Downton Abbey”

It’s the beginning of the end for the Crowley family and their servants. “Maybe we’re leaving a little bit earlier, but, I think, on a really high note,” executive producer Gareth Neame says of the decision to conclude Downton Abbey after six seasons. The final eight episodes air through Feb. 21, with the Christmas special serving as the series finale on March 6. “We didn’t want to leave,” says Michelle Dockery, who plays Lady Mary, after the cast wrapped shooting at Highclere Castle. “Laura [Carmichael] and I wandered around for the last time, and suddenly we didn’t want to go … Continue reading

Shades of Blue: Ray Liotta, Jennifer Lopez play complex cops in NBC drama

Ray Liotta was already contemplating a return to series television when he got a script for NBC’s gritty cop drama Shades of Blue. The veteran movie tough guy was intrigued. The material was good. His character, police Lt. Matt “Woz” Wozniak, was a complicated guy. Oscar winner Barry Levinson (Oz, Donnie Brasco) was aboard to co-executive produce and direct. And pop culture superstar Jennifer Lopez would be making her return to scripted TV — a guaranteed ratings boon. But. “The one thing I didn’t want was to be in ‘the J.Lo show,’” Liotta admits. “That’s nothing against Jennifer at all. … Continue reading

But the Buckeyes bucked conventional wisdom and upset No. 1 Alabama 42-35 in the Sugar Bowl semifinal, then handed it to No. 2 Oregon 42-20 in the title game. VOD Spotlight: Finding Inspiration for Ted 2

Would you believe that a film — a sequel no less — starring a teddy bear with a foul mouth and a taste for beer and pot would use as it’s source material a classic holiday film, a long-running TV franchise and a 19th-century legal case? The success of the film Ted, released in 2012, made a sequel almost inevitable. With almost $550 million in global ticket sales, the profane teddy bear and his best friend, John (Mark Wahlberg), seemed a sure bet for a follow-up — at least to the filmmakers. But writer, director and voice of Ted, Seth … Continue reading

Along with debuting its new series The Expanse on Dec. 14, Syfy also premieres its stunning new miniseries Childhood’s End. In adapting Arthur C. Clarke’s (2001: A Space Odyssey) seminal science-fiction novel, Syfy perhaps fulfills the calling of the original Sci-Fi Channel, and is in line with the channel’s goal of becoming “the destination for the smartest, most provocative [genre dramas],” as Syfy president Dave Howe told Entertainment Weekly last year. Based on what we’ve seen, Childhood’s End should indeed be provocative. CBS supports the “I Have A Dream” Foundation with a holiday-themed intiative

Just in time for the holiday season, CBS Cares — the network’s public service announcement initiative launched in 2000 — has given the gift of star power and a sizable television audience to the non-profit  “I Have A Dream” Foundation (IHDF), which works to ensure that all children have the opportunity, support and resources to pursue higher education. The foundation was launched in 1986 by businessman Eugene M. Lang, who had returned to speak at his East Harlem elementary school after 50 years and learned that three-quarters of the school’s students would struggle to finish high school. On the spot, Lang decided to offer college … Continue reading

Empire Season 2 Episode 10 Recap: The Empire

On last week’s episode of Empire, we got to see the shocking kiss between Skye and Jamal. Just as a new relationship might be budding, we won’t be able to see much of where it goes because this week is the Fall Finale of Empire. Sadly, this means we’ll have to endure a long break from our favorite show. The American Sound Awards nominees are being announced and Lucious already knows Empire artists will be on that list. Sure enough, Jamal is nominated for Best R&B Song with his song Heavy, but let’s see if he can be the first … Continue reading

The legends about deadly curses and glorious treasures have fascinated explorers for over 200 years. It’s been a maddening process but they are determined to see it through. When is It’s a Wonderful Life on TV 2015?

You might recall the days of being able to watch It’s a Wonderful Life on TV a LOT. The 1946 Frank Capra classic was in the public domain at that time, about 20 or 30 years ago, and it seemed to air nearly nonstop in syndication between Thanksgiving and Christmas. RELATED: CHANNEL GUIDE’S HOLIDAY PROGRAMMING GUIDE For the past several years, rights to It’s a Wonderful Life have belonged to NBC, so airings of the film have become more of a special viewing occasion, with the network usually airing it twice during the Christmas season. And they are doing so … Continue reading

Supergirl Season 1 Episode 6 Recap: Red Faced

It’s alien versus android when our Maiden of Might tangles with Red Tornado this week on Supergirl. The great episode delves into the root of Kara’s personal and professional frustrations. She may be a heroine with extraordinary powers, but there is a vulnerability that allows us to relate to her. Even though Kara doesn’t consider herself “normal,” we see she goes through many of the things we do. She has to sit on the sidelines with a supportive smile on her face while her crush Jimmy is with another woman in Lucy. Cat is a demanding boss who is never … Continue reading

Recap: Fargo Season 2, Episode 8 – Cabin Fever

After last week’s killing spree, Fargo is stepping back a bit. Remember all of the unanswered questions from episode 6? Tonight’s episode of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend was the winter finale … it’ll on hiatus for a while (and I’ll update this blog once I know when it’s back). The good news is that the CW has ordered additional episodes — it’s a hit! — so it’s just a waiting game now. Tonight we met Greg’s mom, saw just how manipulative (and, er, horny) Rebecca’s mom can be, witnessed a few of … Continue reading

The Walking Dead Season 6 midseason finale recap: Start to finish (Not)

We all hate these midseason breaks, so Start to Finish is the crappiest title ever … even if it mirrors Deanna’s words. I don’t care. Especially with the little Negan teaser tossed in during Into the Badlands. I will spend the next two months vibrating through The Walking Dead withdrawals. Thanks, AMC! This midseason finale is like most season finales — a lot of craziness and zero resolution. But, I’m going to chalk this one up as the worst – or the best – or both. We all know the wall went down and an ass-load of walkers are on their … Continue reading
